About us and our programme

Pikopiko Clyde Quay Kindergarten is nestled in the inner-city suburb of Mount Victoria, located on the grounds of Clyde Quay School within the upper area of the playground.

Our unique setting fosters strong connections with the school, where older siblings are nearby and familiar faces are part of children’s everyday experiences. Being based on school grounds supports children to build confidence and familiarity with the school environment, enabling smooth and positive transitions. Tamariki are able to observe and make sense of school life, helping them feel prepared, capable, and excited for the next step in their learning journey.

Our kindergarten community reflects the rich diversity of Wellington. Families from both the local area and wider community come together to form a welcoming, supportive whānau network. We value these relationships and the sense of belonging they create for children and their families.

Our team of 100% qualified and registered early childhood teachers are passionate about creating an inclusive, responsive learning environment where every child is valued. Our philosophy is grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and guided by the principles of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga, and whakamana. These values underpin all that we do—building strong relationships, showing care and respect, nurturing a sense of responsibility for people and the environment, and empowering children as capable learners.

Children’s interests are at the heart of our programme. Through thoughtful observation and intentional teaching, we create meaningful, responsive learning opportunities that reflect our tamariki, whānau, and community. Children are supported to make choices, build independence, and develop confidence as curious, capable learners, while shared experiences foster social connections, empathy, and a strong sense of belonging through partnership.
