What awesome weather we've been having!

We hope you are all getting out and enjoying it, especially with Labour weekend coming up!

Be sure to read the article below as it shares some important information for the next pay run and also check out the update for the Christmas party!

Timesheets and Returns for Payday

Please can you send in all timesheets and staffing returns by 9am on Friday 20 October (for the week ending that day).  With Labour Day on Monday 23rd it limits the time we have to process these and we need to have the pay confirmed by mid-day on Tuesday.

Who's Who in the Office

We have been thinking about the best way of communicating with you who does what in the Association office.

There are many different roles and many different people undertaking these roles.  You may need to contact one or more of us over the course of your day so we have put together

this document that you can print out and keep on hand.

We hope this makes it easier for you to contact the right person!

Term Dates 2018

The Open/Close/Term Dates for 2018 are attached.  We have also re-attached the calendars showing when Annual Leave happens for different groups.  Please note the date for the Whole Staff Meeting next year is Monday 9 July.  This is compulsory for all Teachers so we ask that you avoid planning holidays on this date and it can be a good idea to let your whānau know to avoid organising surprise trips away.

If you need to talk about this, or about anything to do with the dates for next year, you can contact Karen Skett at karen.skett@wmkindergartens.org.nz or on 021 857 826.

Term 4 2017 Whānau Contributions:

Your families may be starting to ask about Term 4 requests for Whanau Contributions.  Feel free to let them know that these will be emailed out later next week.  For those families without email addresses, hard copies will be delivered to kindergartens for distribution through “child pockets”.

So that we have the most up to date information for our request letters can you please try and have all your children’s enrolment records in Infocare up to date by the end of day on Tuesday 24th October 2017.

Many thanks.

Tell us What's Going on in Your Kindergarten!

Hi everyone, it has been great getting out and seeing some of you!

I know many of you have exciting and interesting things going on at the moment and we want to know about it!

So if you have anything happening at Kindergarten e.g. events, fundraisers or anything you think especially intriguing please let me know!

Such events can be great opportunities not only for publicity and promotion but also to invite the wider community into our kindergartens, creating an awesome space for our rangatahi.

Malo ni! Tokelauan Language Week is being held from 23 - 29 October 2017.

This theme of the week is 'Tokelau ke mau ki te Gagana a nā tupuna auā he tofi mai te Atua’ - ‘Tokelau hold fast to the language of your ancestors because it is an inheritance from God’.

Tokelau is an island country and dependent territory of New Zealand in the southern Pacific Ocean. It consists of three tropical coral atolls (Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo), with a combined land area of 10 km2 (4 sq mi) and a population of approximately 1,500 people. Its capital rotates yearly between the three atolls.  Tokelau lies north of the Samoan Islands, Swains Island being the nearest, east of Tuvalu, south of the Phoenix Islands, southwest of the more distant Line Islands, and northwest of the Cook Islands. Until 1976, the official name was Tokelau Islands.

With the fourth smallest population of any sovereign state or dependency on Earth, Tokelau is a leader in renewable energy, being the first 100% solar powerednation in the world.  Tokelau is a free and democratic nation with elections every three years. All run as independents; there are no political parties in Tokelau.

The most spoken language in Tokelau is Tokelauan, at 93.5%. A dependent territory of New Zealand, it is sometimes referred to by its older colonial name, the Union Islands. In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly designated Tokelau a non-self-governing territory.  However, Tokelau is officially referred to as a nation by both the New Zealand government and the Tokelauan government.[

Educational resource

The Ministry has worked closely with the community to develop a Tokelauan language resource. It includes pronunciation guides, activity ideas, songs and cultural information.

Community poster

This year’s Tokelau Language Week poster was developed by the Ministry with language assistance provided by the Tokelau Wellington Leadership Group.  It was commissioned with the assistance of Vaitoa Baker, a Porirua based Tokelau illustrator and graphics designer, and accessed the photograph from Theresa Kele, of Tokelau descent who works at the National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Matauranga o Aotearoa.

Nuanua Kindergarten will be celebrating this week and will have some interesting activities planned for their children.
