Welcome to this week's Kōrero with the latest information and stories for you...

We have to celebrate that we are at the end of the darkest, wettest, coldest term of the year – well done to all of you! Isn’t it lovely to have Daylight Saving and to get home in the evening and it’s still light?!

Thanks to all of you for your superb work. To those of you who are having a break over the coming two weeks, I hope you have time to re-charge and enjoy your time.  For those of you who are working in our full year kindergartens and Etu Ao, thanks for providing such an important service to our children and communities, and to those of you who are engaging in professional development during the term break, thanks for further developing your expertise and quality of the work you do.

Amazing times for us all in terms of determining the next government – we will provide a comprehensive overview of the outcome of the General Election and the possible implications in our Kōrero on 12th October. At this stage, thanks to all of you who engaged with families about high quality ECE, encouraged people to vote, and promoted the importance of our democracy.  I know many of you used it as a fantastic opportunity to engage children in learning around it. We are so lucky to have you in this organisation – you guys rock!

xoxo

PLD - What Does it Look Like for Māori Children?

Can PCT’s who are attending the Induction and Mentoring workshop on “What Does it look Like for Maori Children?” on 2nd October please bring along their Appraisal/Induction and Mentoring folder. There will be an opportunity to share these with each other.

Key Boxes

Please ensure that there is a key for your kindergarten and any gates in your key box.

Alarm codes need to be in the key box also. This is very important as we require access to kindergartens at all times.

If you have any issues with this please contact Lorraine.Coulston@wmkindergartens.org.nz

Who's Who in the Office

We have been thinking about the best way of communicating with you who does what in the Association office.

There are many different roles and many different people undertaking these roles.  You may need to contact one or more of us over the course of your day so we have put together

this document that you can print out and keep on hand.

We hope this makes it easier for you to contact the right person!

GOSH Update

We are currently experiencing some technical issues with GOSH.

Some Kindergartens are not receiving confirmation emails after entering information into GOSH.  We are working with our IT people to come up with a solution for this.

In the meantime if you are not receiving a confirmation email after entering information into GOSH please advise Lorraine by email at Lorraine.Coulston@wmkindergartens.org.nz.

Opportunities for PLD

Dear Teachers

Please see the following reminders:

Office 365 and PowerPoint workshops Wednesday 4th and Tuesday 10th October:

There are still spaces in these sessions and the aim for the Office 365 part is for you to explore how you can use Office 365 as a support in managing your time and workload.

As we want these to be hands-on sessions, where you will have an opportunity to use Office 365 and PowerPoint, it would be beneficial if you could bring either a laptop or an IPad/tablet with you.

You will also need to know your personal work email address and password in order to login to Office 365 (if you can’t remember your email password, please e-mail Tania Braybrook at Tania.braybrook@wmkindergartens.org.nz and ask her reset your password prior to the course).

New Head Teacher Meeting  which took place on 7 September 2017:

A survey has been sent to all New Head Teachers who attended this meeting on the 7th September to ask for your feedback on topics for future meetings,  please can you check your personal work emails for the link to the survey  - we look forward to your feedback, thank you.

Infocare Cut-Off and Ministry of Education RS7 Reporting

It’s that time again – we have to report “RS7” information about your kindergarten to the Ministry of Education for the current funding period (1 June – 30 Sept) byFriday 6th October.  All of the information we require is generated from your enrolment and staff timetable information in Infocare, so we need your help to ensure that all of this is completed as soon as possible.

With this week being the end of term for most kindergartens we require all kindergartens to have your Infocare records for the end of this week completed by close of play on Friday 29th September.

This means we would like you to complete the following tasks in Infocare up to and including Friday 29 September, as appropriate:

  • Sign in sheets marked in Infocare (actual attendance)
  • Fee invoices (for the week ending 29th September) created and committed
  • Staff timetables (“staff hour count”) for the week ending 29th September are completed
  • Online sign off of your monthly roll return
  • Any ratio, attendance or roll issues are communicated to the Association (please call Hannah or Tania)

Please let Tania or Hannah know if you do not think you will be able to complete this by tomorrow.

Banking

As usual please ensure that there is little or no cash held at your kindergarten over the term break.  You should have banked all of your petty cash by now, if you haven't please do so before lunch time Friday.   Can you please also update Infocare with details of all deposits made.

Kids Kapa Haka Performance

A kapa haka performance by kids for kids, and whanaungatanga (friends and family) will be held on Thursday 9th November, 10am to 11.30am at Te Marae, Level 4 at Te Papa.  This is a free event.

Our very own tamariki from Tai Tamariki and Toru Fetu Kindergartens will be performing along with tamariki from Pukeatua ECE Centre, Kelson, Wainuiomata and Fernlea Schools.

The performace is based on Tuakana/teina, which means the younger pupils learning from the older students.

The little ones will perform waiata which they have been practising, then they will sit back and watch their older peers perform waiata-o-ringa, poi and haka.

Come along and support our Kindergarten tamariki!
