Free Maori Language App for Young Learners
Te Mangai Paho, the Maori broadcasting agency has introduced a free app for children aged three to seven to support learning te reo Māori.
Ten digital puzzles introduce te reo words and phrases to children in a fun way, including New Zealand storybook characters such as Hairy Maclary, and experiences such as a road trip and a boil-up.
The puzzles can be accessed for free through: www.reopuzzles.online, and more will be released weekly over the next month.
The objective is to introduce young New Zealanders to te Reo Māori while also capturing whānau attention with a positive message that this language and culture is highly relevant to their children’s future.
The puzzles were created by technology innovator Kiwa Digital, recognized for its commitment to te Reo Māori.
Te Mangai Paho’s motto is - Ahakoa kei whea, Ahakoa āwhea, Ahakoa pēwhea, Kōrerotia te reo Māori! Māori language - everyday, everyway, everywhere.”
Ideas for extension activities are also available and can be downloaded and shared.
