Our Teaching Team

At Matairangi Kindergarten in Hataitai we provide education and care for children aged 18 months to three years.

We have a philosophy of free play. Teachers create the environment to foster curiousity, learning and independence. A wide range of activities and experiences are accessible for tamariki to explore and learn through. At Matairangi you can expect your tamariki to get wet, sandy, and messy, as water, sand and messy play are available, encouraged and well used!

We notice, recognise, intentionally plan for, and respond, to both the individual and shared interests, needs and strengths of our tamariki as they emerge through their play and interactions with people, places and things.

At Matairangi Kindergarten care routines such as settling, nappy changing, and sleeping are an imbedded part of our programme and full of opportunities for learning. These times are important for building trusting attachment relationships. We believe that learning is enabled through feelings of aroha, safety, and belonging.

We’d love to share our kindergarten with you and your children. There’s so much for tamariki to see and do. It’s a stimulating environment, with fully trained and registered teachers to make the most of every learning opportunity. Come and talk to us and have a look around.

Monday to Friday: 8:30am - 2:30pm

We have a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Te Ao Māori concepts are emphasised with our programme and our philosophy - Whanaungatanga: We recognise the importance of Whanaungatanga and building successful partnerships with all those who attend Matairangi. These relationships are the foundation of creating a respectful, collaborative, and harmonious community. Manaakitanga: Manaakitanga underpins the relationships we build and sustain with each other and the environment. Our manaakitanga encompasses the values of respect, kindness, reciprocity, and humanity. Wairuatanga: We believe the child’s wairua is an integral part of who they are. Acknowledging and respecting children’s mana is an essential part of getting to know them. Tino Rangatiratanga: Children are encouraged to follow their interests and set their own goals. The decisions, aspirations, and feelings of children and their whānau are respected and valued.
