Nau mai ki tenei wiki Kōrero.

There is so much going on at the moment and this week our thoughts turn to our Muslim staff and families who, like all New Zealanders, will be impacted by the court process and sentencing taking place in Christchurch this week.

As-salamu alaykum,

peace be upon you.

Your Infocare records for August need to be completed by Tuesday 1 September next week.  This means we would like you to complete the following tasks in Infocare, up to and including Monday 31 August, as appropriate:

  • Sign in sheets marked in Infocare (actual attendance)
  • Fee invoices created and committed (for the week ending Friday 28 August)
  • Staff timetables (“staff hour count”) completed
  • Online sign off of your monthly roll return
  • Any ratio, attendance or roll issues are communicated to the Wellington Association Office (please call Tania on 04 232 3069 or 0800 546 337).

Tania will follow up with you if she has any questions related to your records.

Kindergarten Reports

The audit of our year end accounts has been completed so tomorrow we will be circulating your “Final Audited” 30 June 2020 kindergarten financial reports.  In addition we will email your kindergarten reports for the one month ended 31 July 2020.  Your July reports will exclude budget information as SMT are still working through the finalisation of the 2020/21 kindergarten budgets that have been submitted.

First Aid - Kapiti

Due to demand, there has been an extra First Aid Refresher course organised for the Kapiti/Horowhenua region.

This will be run on Monday 28 September and will be held at the Southwards Car Museum.

If you wish to be booked on this, then please contact Kaz directly on karen.craig@wmkindergartens.org.nz.

Reliever's Coordinator - Email Address Update

Please can you make sure that when you email Nicki, one of our reliever coordinators, you use her Whānau Manaaki address – nicki.cook@wmkindergartens.org.nz.  This is the address that is connected to her phone so it will ensure she receives your message and also means we can give the phone to someone to fill in for her when she takes leave.

Relievers’ Hours In StaffSync

If you organise your own reliever in advance, or if a reliever’s hours change when they’re with you, please make sure you let the Reliever Coordinator know so those hours can correctly be entered in StaffSync.

We will soon be using StaffSync to upload directly into payroll, across the organisation, so it’s vital that the hours are correct as that is what the reliever will be paid.

2020 Appraisal Goal/ Enquiry Survey

As mentioned in last week's Kōrero you may remember we use a survey each year to gather information about teachers and support staff appraisal goals/enquiry questions.  We use the information gathered through the survey to inform our Professional Learning and Development programme for the upcoming year.

We have now updated the survey for this year andit is available here.

All Head Teachers/Senior Head Teachers are asked to complete this survey for all their Teachers and Support Staff by 31 August 2020.

Please contact your Senior Teacher or Lynette,lynette.wray@wmkindergartens.org.nz, if you have any questions around completing the survey.

Listen Out For Us!  We’re Hitting Local Frequencies!

Over the coming months He Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens will be advertising across The Edge and Mai Fm radio stations.  We have arranged for the advertising to air across all of our regions, so we hope that you will all notice some benefit!!

However there is no easy way for us to track the success of this advertising, SO… we are hoping that you will be able to keep an eye and ear out!  Could you please ask new families how they heard/found out about your kindergarten and please let us know your findings!

It would be interesting to see how this goes!!

More Full Year Kindergartens

Two more kindergartens have decided to move to full-year operations. Taihape Kindergarten will be open for the next term break, while Petone will start its full year operation in the second week of the September/October term break.

This brings the total number of Whānau Manaaki kindergartens operating on a full year basis to 35.  More kindergartens are expected to follow.

Deputy Chief Executive Jane Braun says the full year option suits families and allows teachers to have more flexibility about when they have leave.

“Kindergartens who have adopted this model find it works well” she says.

50th Celebrations Postponed

Due to the limit of numbers at gatherings Papararangi Kindergarten have postponed their 50th anniversary celebrations to Sunday 1 November.

They hope to see everyone on this new date.

ECE Voice Action Day

NZEI Te Riu Roa’s group ECE Voice is holding an action day tomorrow to highlight the need for more investment in early childhood education.

The action comes in the wake of the government’s Covid 19 economic response with government funding for so-called shovel-ready projects.

The idea is to tell the government early childhood education is ready for more investment.

Centres are asked to use creative ways to show that they are shovel ready (with signs, or shovels) and post them on social media with the hashtag #ShovelReadyECE and tag local political candidates and education spokespeople.

Centres should also send pictures to the  ECE Voice Facebook or Instagram page.  Of course, any children in the photos need to have permission to be included.

Schools Pride Week

The first nationwide Pride Week in schools was held this week, with 100 registrations ranging from early childhood providers to tertiary institutions. Themes include education, inclusion, wellbeing and whakapapa.

The idea of the week is to reduce bullying and distress for rainbow young people, and create a sense of belonging.

The week also includes a focus on books that reflect different ways of being, including books for young children.

Here’s a link to the Pride School website.
