About Us and Our Programme

Kia Ora, Talofa, Kia Orana. Welcome to Tairangi Kindergarten!

Tairangi Kindergarten has a large setting with a small number of 30 children and 3 teachers, which enables teachers to spend quality time with individuals or small groups of children . Children are able to attend up to 5 sessions per week, 8.45am-2.45pm, and are in a mixed age setting of 2-5 year olds. This makes for valuable opportunities where children are the  experts of teaching and learning to their peers,  tuakana teina.

The children are encouraged to play  both inside and outside throughout the session, we believe through having minimal structure during the session, children can explore as many areas, resources and interests without too many interruptions. This empowers them to make new discoveries, relationships with their peers, and practise any goals they set themselves  while they are here. We also encourage and welcome you to be a part of your child’s day,  it is during this time kaiako and whanau can chat about your individual child and gain insight to them outside of kindergarten. This can help us identify teaching strategies we may use when working with and alongside your child.

These significant developments will be documented in your child's personal profile book which you will find in the Sign In area. A teacher will pass this to you initially after your child’s first couple days as we like to present it to you with a few photos of your child’s first day. You will be invited to contribute to your child’s profile book also, it is important for parents, children and teachers to work together for the best outcomes for each child.

Monday to Friday:  8:45am – 2:45 pm

There is a planning wall  which can be seen as you enter the main door, this shows the learning children are displaying and the teaching strategies we are using to extend their learning. You are more than welcome to chat with a teacher regarding your child’s interests and learning. We love to hear about any connections/links between your child’s life outside of kindergarten. This enables us to plan more specifically for your individual child within the group.

There are many other ways in which you can make a contribution to your child’s learning and our kindergarten community. We have Whanau Meetings once a term, this is an opportunity for you to make suggestions,  assist with fundraising and be part of planning Kindergarten events throughout the year.
