Kaumātua Launch Māori Designed Kuki Reka Kani (cookie cutters)
Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust (RKCT) in Hamilton/Kirikiriroa is a a non-commercial trust raising money for facilities for older people, and in the process are filling a resource gap for early childhood services.
Together with local kaumātua the Trust has launched a second set of three Māori-designed cookie cutters (kuki reka kani). The first shapes were kete, paua and a single twist, and the new ones are a fishhook (hei matau), koru and double twist (pikorua).
Local kaumātua came up with the idea for the cookie cutters as part of a Whānau Ora innovation project in 2019.
