Johnsonville West Kindergarten Goes To The Beehive
On Thursday last week tamariki from Johnsonville West Kindergarten had a very exciting excursion to the Beehive.
Their tour guides, Hamish and Caroline, showed them around the Beehive and they got to see some beautiful artwork, marble stone structure and pictures of previous Prime Ministers of New Zealand.
It was also pretty exciting to see the special room where Jacinda Arden and Ashley Bloomfield do their COVID-19 updates and announcements. They were also lucky to visit the "Select Committee Room" where the draft legislatures are discussed in detail. This room was covered in beautiful wood carvings, which they were allowed to touch and admire.
After this they met their local MP Greg O'Connor. Greg spent some time with the parents who came along to help with the trip. They all had a lovely chat with him as he showed them around his office. They also met his dog, Herby, who the children really enjoyed playing with.
The tamariki sang waiata and Christmas songs to him as a thank you for his hospitality and for welcoming them all in his office. The group then had a lovely picnic lunch and a play in the playground.
Since their excursion the tamariki have been extending their learning by constructing the ‘Beehive’ using the kindergarten construction resources such as the wooden blocks and magnetic tiles. What a memorable learning experience it was!
