About Us and Our ProgrammeNewlands Kindergarten has been part of the Newlands community for 50 years. It is close to the Newlands shopping centre with good walking and bus access. We feed into 4 local schools. We serve an ethnically diverse community with a wide cultural mix. Many of our children are learning English.
Our focus is on having fun and providing a warm and welcoming environment. One way we do this is by celebrating community with social events such as our annual wheel-a-thon, pyjama party, Christmas party and other cultural events.
Working closely with families is a big component of our programme and philosophy. We are experienced in successfully providing extra support when needed.
There are 5 full time, 100% qualified and registered teachers and an administrator in our team. Teachers are all experienced ECE practitioners committed to ongoing professional learning and development.
We provide a fun and vibrant programme in an attractive, well-resourced environment

Diversity is celebrated, and we have a programme which is very focused on building social competence and promoting equity and inclusion. Some facets of this are; promoting a real sense of belonging, language development, a good sense-of- self, participation and clear communication. Literacy, numeracy, music and drama, as well as sustainability feature strongly.
We garden with the children (as well as we are able to, within the constraints of the Newlands climate!)
We also support risk taking and help children to build resilience and self-belief.
