About Us and Our Programme

Our kindergarten is housed in a converted villa near Johnsonville Railway Station and the Mall.  We have a large outdoor area with beautiful trees and  are  fortunate  that  both our  indoor and outdoor  areas provide  our  children  with  plenty  of  space.

We offer places to children over two and provide morning, afternoon or full day options to meet different family needs.  We are open for 49 weeks of the year.

We are a multicultural kindergarten with children from many different ethnic backgrounds.  Our families practise a range of religions and speak many languages.   We acknowledge  the  cultural mix  which  makes  up our  community  and  celebrate many  cultural  festivals. When our community comes together, it is usually around sharing food. We use our local  community,  taking  short  walks  to  the  local fire  station,  police  station  and regularly  attend story times and te reo sessions  at  the local library. We liaise  with  our  local  school  community and   support  children to  have  a successful  transition into  school.

We are a warm and welcoming team, and we value partnerships with our families who are encouraged to visit and spend time talking to teachers, to develop a sense of belonging at Johnsonville Kindergarten.

Our programme is  based  on Te  Whāriki, a bicultural curriculum which  is  founded on aspirations for  children  to  grow  as competent and confident learners.  We  nurture  the mana of the child, support  children’s  social  competency and provide  an  environment where  learning is  fun.

We acknowledge and value the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa, through the Treaty of Waitangi, and incorporate te reo Maori and tikanga Maori into our practice. We  view  children as  individuals  who  contribute their  strengths and interests to  our  programme, empowering them  to  become independent thinkers.   We provide choices within the programme, encouraging respect and responsibility for the living and natural world.
