About Us and Our Programme

Waitangirua Kindergarten is a multicultural community of learners.  Many of our families come from Maori, Pasifika and Asian backgrounds.

We have five teachers as well as a cultural aide and a language extension teacher who works with the teaching team to build on children’s language and cultural knowledge and identity.

Building strong, positive and culturally-sensitive relationships with families /whānau/community is important in creating a learning environment that caters for all children.  Having fun with our children is a must and there are always humorous moments to share and laugh about, so if you want some ‘happy time’ or just want to visit then feel free to do so.

SESSION TIMES

Older children

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30am - 2:30pm

Younger children

Monday and Friday 8:30am – 2:30pm

We offer a programme which is flexible, purposeful, stimulating and challenging by following the children’s interests and supporting their learning and other needs. We have a transition to school programme, and a peer reading programme with one of our local schools. We offer Kapa haka once a week. A Samoan cultural aide supports our programme in Samoan, and a language extension teacher supports children needing extra one to one assistance.
